Go City Amsterdam Pass is designed for the Amsterdam visitor who wants a simple all-inclusive pass that gains access to some of the most popular attractions in Amsterdam whilst saving them money.
Why buy the Go City Pass?
If the attractions included match your bucket list then using the Go City Pass to visit multiple attractions will save you money. The longer you have the pass for the more you can conceivably save.
The highlight attractions include: The Heineken Experience, Rijksmuseum, Moco Museum and A’DAM Lookout.
Once purchased the pass will sit on your phone as an app or you print it out, which you just show at the entrance of your chosen attraction. As with most things now though, attractions in the main need to be booked in advance. So, it’s not always possible to just turn up and enter, especially for the really popular attractions.

What attractions are included with the Go City Amsterdam Pass?
Attraction passes are only as good as the attractions they feature. Here Go City has a very nice collection of Amsterdam attractions that most visitors will want to see whilst in Amsterdam.
The key missing attractions for us are the Van Gogh Museum and Anne Frank House. However, when compared to the I Amsterdam card, Go City includes the very popular Heineken Experience which is only discounted with the I Amsterdam card.

Looking at the attractions on offer we are particlulalry drawn to the Keukenhof tickets and trips, but these are only available in the Spring season when the attraction is open. As many visitors will come purely for this spectacle, the Go City Pass offers great additional benefits during this time.
For the short term visitor, the Go City Pass offers an interesting mix with some must-see attractions as well as the lesser known and some interesting experiences like bike hire, pedal boats and canal cruises.
Key features of the Go City Amsterdam Pass
The Go City Pass is an attraction pass only. It does not include any provision for public transport, so you will need to find your own way around Amsterdam. The I Amsterdam City Card includes public transport.
You can learn about the public transport in Amsterdam and buy tickets in advance. You can also easily walk around Amsterdam, use the canals or hire a bike (something that is included with the Go City Pass).
Go City Amsterdam is a day pass
When looking at the pass you’ll see they offer 1-day, 2-day, 3-day and 5-day passes.
Your pass activates from the first time you use it, then will be valid for the number of consecutive days you have purchased.
The pass will stay valid for 2 years from purchase date.
The key requirement with any visitor pass is to be a little bit organised. Pre-plan your day as best as you can, so that if you invest in an attraction pass, you can squeeze as much value out of it as possible. As most attractions now require pre-booking of tickets, you’ll find pre-planning your day much easier.
Mobile or paper pass
Pretty much everyone has a smartphone now, so having the app is a real benefit to planning, booking and gaining entry. If you are old school then you can print out your voucher and show that at the attractions (booking online as you go or in advance).
Notable exceptions to the Go City Pass
There are a few attractions not featured on the Go City Pass. These include the Van Gogh Museum and Anne Frank House. Van Gogh Museum removed itself from the I Amsterdam City Card recently too. Other noteable attractions not included are Nemo Science Museum, Amsterdam Zoo, Amsterdam Museum, Straat Museum and quite a few more museum attractions.
Unfortunately you cannot have it all and would need to stay in Amsterdam a very long time to see everything. Go City focusses on as many of the highlight attractions and diverse experiences as it can.
Additional benefits of the Go City Amsterdam Pass
You’ll find there are various free things on offer at some of the attractions. Tony’s Chocolonly Superstore attraction will offer you a free chocolate bar for instance, but you’ll most likely need to ask. Check what freebies are offered and don’t be afraid to ask for them when you are there.
This pass also includes trips to Keukenhof and to Rotterdam, Delft and The Hague which is a great benefit (though maybe not to those buying a 1-day pass as you’ll spend most of your day there). We feel these trips will book up incredibly quickly, so you will need to book these well in advance to gain the benefit.
Simple comparison of costs of 1-day Go City Amsterdam Pass
It is not difficult to see how you can save money using the Go City Pass.
You would only need to visit three attractions in a day to make savings on buying individual tickets.
Rijksmuseum costs €20, Heineken Experience costs €18, Moco Museum €16. These are all pretty close together attractions with a total cost of €56.
A 1-day Go City Pass costs €51.
If you take the canal cruise or hire bikes as well then you are making good savings on a one day trip.
When you start to look at 2 and 3-day passes the savings can soon mount up. It’s probably impossible to do everything listed, but Go City claim that it is possible to make over 50% savings on individual ticket purchases using the pass when you opt for longer time periods. If you are super organised and not one to hang around too long at each place then that is certainly achieveable.
Who is this City pass aimed at?
Choosing a pass like this comes down to what type of visitor you are. If you like to leisurely stroll round a museum soaking everything in and don’t want to be thinking ‘Ok, I’ve got to get across to this place by this time” then this pass might not be for you. If however, you are wanting to see everything you can in the time you have and not break the bank whilst doing it, then these are perfect passes for you.
There is always a middle ground where you might decide to have one busy day using the pass to see as much as you can and your other day(s) exploring at a more relaxed pace.
Booking timeslots with Go City Amsterdam Pass
Although the pandemic is more in the rear view mirror now, its effects will be with us for some time to come.
One of these is that the reduced numbers allowed to safely visit attractions during the pandemic meant everything needed to be booked online in advance.
This looks likely to continue, not only as a means of keeping people safe but also the venues are able to manage visitor numbers in a more controlled way through booking in advance.
This is not to say that you cannot just turn up at some attractions, wave your Go City Card and get in. But, to avoid disappointment we recommend booking in advance, this is really how you get the most out of any visitor card as you can pre-plan your use much more accurately.
How to book tickets with Go City Amsterdam
Once you have purchased your Go City Pass you can download the app, sync it to your purchased pass and use the displayed barcode/QR as your ticket.
To book your tickets in advance is slightly different.
For some attractions you’ll need to go to the attractions own website and find the date and time you want to go and then make sure you select the option of Go City Pass holder and pop in your details.
Once booked you can download the provided ticket from the attraction.
There are however some extra requirements with the Amsterdam Go City Pass for a few of the included attractions. For example the tickets to Keukenhof and for the other day trips, particularly Rotterdam, The Hague and Delft you will need to email the reservations team for each tour to ask to book on a tour at your chosen date.
These booking details are provided by Go City and you can use the app or website to find them, but its an extra layer to go through when booking a place on the coach. Which is why we keep saying book early, especially for any of the provided tours.
Should I buy the Go City Amsterdam Pass?
Check the attractions are ones that appeal to you firstly. Pre-plan what you can do in a day, two days or more with the pass against any other plans you have in Amsterdam.
You will save money using the pass if you use it to its fulllest and plan ahead, so yes this attraction pass is a very good one. It has excellent cancellation policies, runs off a mobile app, so you do not need to pick it up from anywhere and includes some of the biggest attractions in Amsterdam.
