Amsterdam 750th Anniversary

Amsterdam’s birthday celebrations

Amsterdam’s 750th Anniversary falls on 27 October 2025. This will be a huge event, not just on the day itself, but for the whole of 2025.

Amsterdam has planned celebrations that will run from October 2024 right through to the end of 2025. You can expect the city to be festooned with Amsterdam 750 visuals and no doubt the industries are busy making a vast amount of merchandise to mark the special occasion.

So, if you have ever been wondering whether to visit Amsterdam, then 2025 should be the year to do it. The city will be alive with celebrations including this Amsterdam 750th anniversary and also the epic Sail Amsterdam 2025 will be back after a 10-year enforced break.

Amsterdam 750th planned events

At the moment we can only give you an overview on the type of events planned as the full timetable is still in progress.

There are also invites for anyone living in Amsterdam to put on their own events, so in 2025 you will likely stumble upon celebrations, official or otherwise.

Launch event

The first event of note will be the official launch party concert. This will take place in the Ziggo Dome on 27 October 2024 and launches the city into its 750th Jubilee year celebrations. It is billed as a musical time machine with music from past to present and comedy acts too.

Year long celebration in Amsterdam

It is then expected that throughout the next 12 months there will be well over 200 official events put on to mark this special once in a lifetime occasion.

These will include exhibitions, music, sporting events, art projects, kid focussed events and more. There will also be a huge street party style event on 21 June 2025, focussed along the A10 ring road which will be closed to traffic.

There will be the smaller more community style events popping up throughout the year too.

Sail Amsterdam 2025

Sail Amsterdam celebrates Amsterdam’s birthday every 5 years. It first started in 1975, so will also be celebrating the 50th anniversary of the event. It was cancelled in 2020 due to the pandemic. So as it has not been held for a decade and now coincides with the 750th Jubilee celebrations of Amsterdam, it is going to a very special event indeed.

Sail Amsterdam takes over a large part of Amsterdam. but the main focus is around the River IJ. You can witness the history of maritime sailing as the river fills with incredible ships, past and present.

Sail Amsterdam runs from 20-24 August 2025.

Why 2025 is the year to visit Amsterdam

Amsterdam 750th Birthday

Amsterdam is an incredibly welcoming city. It is diverse, beautiful and compact. Which means it can be a joy to get around. You can walk along canals and jump on iconic trams, grab a bike and cycle around Amsterdam at your leisure and have candlelit dinners on canal boats, admiring the city lights reflecting in the water.

There are a stunning collection of world renowned museums in Amsterdam. Van Gogh Museum and Rijksmuseum, the national museum of the Netherlands are the two most well known. Couple these with the moving Anne Frank House and modern museums like Moco Museum, Stedelijk Museum and Straat Museum and you soon realise Amsterdam is a mecca for incredible art and history.

There are popular attractions like the Heineken Experience and the mesmerising Fabrique des Lumières. For the best views in Amsterdam there is A’DAM Lookout Tower and Artis Royal Zoo offers a modern zoo for the whole family.

Then you can explore places like nine streets for shopping, the red light district, the floating flower market, iconic Dam Square and Begijnhof.

Just on the edges of Amsterdam, you can find Keukenhof Gardens for tulips in Spring. Zaanse Schans is home to an array of beautiful working windmills. Amsterdam Noord and Harlaam are also fabulous places to visit.

You can expect pretty much every attraction in Amsterdam to have some kind of event planned to celebrate Amsterdam’s 750th Anniversary, which makes 2025 such a brilliant year to visit Amsterdam.

We love Amsterdam all the time, but if you are only ever going to visit once (though once you have been, you’ll want to come back), then 2025 should be the year.
